In this challenge, I have seen several great examples of good non-subject foreground pictures and a couple of less than good examples. I don't know where else to ask, so here goes....

Are there specific art (or photography) "rules" on what makes good foreground non-subjects vs. bad ones? (I want to know more myself.) Would anyone consider making a tutorial for this subject?

Two examples of good ones in this challenge (congrats to these photogs!)

I would like to do more of this type of photography, but don't always know what would be the right thing to do. Thanks in advance!

I guess we should not comment this week's pictures.

No,no, no, I was not attempting to "comment" on current pics. Most often, when I try to ask for help and don't know the correct verbage, I get asked for examples of what I mean. That's all. These were examples of non-subject foreground items, so you could know what I was attempting to ask about, rather than starting some thread ABOUT these photos.

What makes good foreground material?

I thanked the photographers, whomever they are, because I used their photos as examples, very impolite of me, but in a nice way.
