What the difference between the D50 & D70? Especially if I upgrade the firmware in D70 to 2.0?

So the differences are:
1. SD card instead of CF card
2. 1/4000 sutter speed vs 1/8000
3. 2" lcd instead of 1.8"
4. USB 2.0 vs 1.x
5. 620g vs 679g
6. smaller vs larger
7. cheaper vs more expensive

So the D50 is pretty much just a cheaper version of the d70 with a larger lcd. why go with the damn sd card?

The SD card system is cheaper to install because it is physically much smaller. the larger LCD, well that's a bit of a catch....

I was flabergasted to see how BIG the lcd on a D2x was compared to the one on my camera... but the resolution was another issue.

1: SD is gaining in popularity. CF will likely be extinct in 3 years (see smartmedia cards as an exapmle)
2: cheaper shutter system, won't last as long
3: marketing, a real improvement...I think there is a D70s that has the bigger screen as well.
4: real progress. unless you DL that wway or shoot tethered, it does not matter
5: Good thing to be lighter.
6: depends...smaller is better to a point. Ask 350XT folks.
7: Less expensive is better. Cheaper is not. Probably a manufacturing method as well as the cheaper shutter system.

I doubt it. CF1/2 is fundamentally a longer-standing more solid technology.

From my favourite flash seller I can buy CF up to 4 GB from a variety of makes. I can only get SD up to 1 GB. Inevitably there are shops selling larger but I suspect still smaller than the CF that's available.

I personally don't even like holding SD cards. The smaller stuff gets, the more likely I am to do one or many of the following things:

- Bend it
- Break it
- Lose it
- Leave it in my pocket and send it on a journey of washing machine proportions

SD has lower performance than CF, and fewer pins, so the camera side electronics are probably cheaper. See //www.davespda.com/hardware/expansion/cfmmcsd.htm

My Camera as Both CF and SD, which is good for swaping files or for double recording as it provides and instant back up.

In the case of me, I send my RAW to the CF while the SD records small jpg files that I can use as proofing files immediatly.
