And half the ones that are none of the above seem to think that a photograph of an object meets the challenge IF the title describes a decision.

how on earth is a flower a decision? (And here I thought it would be a flower free challenge...) |

Eleven suicides (4% of all entries). Pretty sad statement really. :(

I'd appreciate some assessments on this image. I almost submitted it, but decided this might not "grab" the viewers, so decided to stay out of the challenge.
It's a couple walking down a seaside promenade. I tried to capture the certainty in their pose, I think the decision is obvious, and I'd have titled it "The Future" or "To walk together" something like that.
I have no regret about not submitting this, but I am rather surprised that many of the submissions showed a "choice" not a "decision."
Thanks,
Rob

rgo - hmm i think that picture would be more effective if it was like the ocean or some valley something open and undiscovered or something in the background to compliment the picture.
.art-inept.
p.s. - i also noticed there were several chess pictures

Well, Rob, unless they are looking at that building on the left and trying to decide if they should go to the roof and jump to their death, this image obviously wouldn't fit the challenge. ;-)

It seems as such 4% suicide 10% drink and drive 6% Photo post processing decisions 15% Umpires(baseball) 15% Forks in road, 10% Chess 20% Not a clear decision 20% Other, I was really looking forward to some thought out decisons but Im only finding a few out of the box ideas. Unfortunate that so many god photos deserve to be marked down due to topic irrelevance, but the fact of the matter is that your photo should have something to do with the challenge. |

I wonder how this sort of thing affects the final scoring. My guess:
When lots of good pictures (even most of them) have no real link to the challenge, people are less likely to vote down for this. The interpretation of the challenge becomes very loose ("multiple outcomes" becomes an acceptable sort of "decision") and it starts to become more of a free challenge.
The effect of this is that meeting the challenge is no longer rewarded as much in the scoring. Those images that do an excellent job of capturing the theme don't pick up the extra points that they otherwise might. Thus the winners are more pretty that precise.

Albeit you may be correct, I hope that in a challenge you can do so much with, that those who stay within the general topic do well to preserve the integrety of the challenge topic system. Good luck just for making such an insightful (and hopefully unfulfilled) prophecy. |

Lol...I think they might have been doing that. Notice her head is tilted to the left, and perhaps he's the one who's a bit more hesitant, saying: "Let's think this one over again."

I agree - if you took the titles away on this challenge it would be extremely difficult to know what the image is trying to say. So much for a photo (or is that picture/image - I forget) is worth a thousand words - eh? ;^)

Hmmm... remind you of a certain self portrait?
Sorry to pick on you bear, but my point is that if you are doing something conceptual with your submission (which I thought you did marvelously well with your self portrait), the title is very important. Of course, your score on that photo shows what the voters will generally do with conceptual submissions.

it's not a problem, rex. it's just that the fewer clues the better.
i just wanted to say something before this turned into a thread about "well, i had THIS title in mind," etc. etc. etc.
hope your day gets better. |
