Man, I hate being one of those people who pick apart challenge titles, but I have a question.

Does 'naturally' mean the framing has to be of nature, like a tree branch, or can be it something like a doorway?

I interpret it meaning a picture not being force-framed, like someone holding a picture frame in front of the subject.

I get the same idea. Something found.

I'm sure others will disagree with me, but my interpretation is that the frame should be "as found", but can be man-made.

my interpretion is by anything...a child could be framed by a hole in a playset I do not feel that it has to be something Natural

I think it can be framed by anything (as long as its not obviously staged)

Take a look at this past Framing challenge for ideas:

Man made, as found. I think more of a nature shot would appeal to voters.

Description: Take a photograph where the subject is naturally framed in by its surroundings.

"Surroundings" is not modified, so it can be anything. The modifier is: Subject is naturally framed. Subject doesn't have to be framed by natural surroundings. Surroundings can be man made, or naturally occuring. It would be good to have a natural-looking interaction between the frame and the subject.

Just my reading of it...

If you build the doorway to take the picture is not natural, but who would know the difference. A window shot is also good.

In nature if the tree was planted to create the frame it is also unanatural but who would know the difference.

Frames are all over. There are even portable frames that can move and these are built to perform a specific function. Such frames are also suitable.

Voters always follow their own inclinations. Like some want the frame all around. The last challenge of a similar flavor had a scene by Zoomdak with only a partial frame.

Do what tickles your fancy as you will no doubt upset some voters.

would be a good one, I think.

My two old framed attempts:
I think this one, doesn´t meet the challenge, so it´s a man building, what do you think?

This is totally natural framed!

Both of these are perfect. That the wall is man-made is neither here nor there; the goal is not to "artificially" frame something, as in a studio setup or as in holding a frame up to a landscape or something. Your Blanes shot would very likely finish in the very top of the challenge.

Just out of interest, do you think It should be framed on all 4 sides? I feel that would be better, but harder to acheive!

DEFINTELY not. This would mostly lead to truly static images. In photographic terms, in landscape photography for example, when we refer to "framing" a landscape we are talking usually about using foreground objects to give scale and depth to a wide angle shot. If you imagine a shot of, say, a meadow leading down to the sea, with clouds int he sky, effective framing of this shot might include something as simple as overhanging tree branches high in the sky. This is a commonly used framing device.

In this challenge I'd expect most people will go a little further than that, but to expect "good" framing to enclose all 4 sides of a subject would be silly IMO.

Yup...it's the Sunny Jim cave in La Jolla. Named because the face resembled a cartoon character of the day named "Sunny Jim"

Eric, I think that's an absolutely beautiful image. Honestly, one of the nicest images I've seen all week but I would have to say that it's not "Naturally" framed.

My image is not framed on every side but still composed within natural confines and I pray (PRAY!!!) that people don't have an issue with that.

Man made works perfectly for me but something totaly, totaly staged might not fair as well, unless it's absolutely stunning or something so cool and unexpected.

My image is framed, not by nature but is naturally framed (oh and all 4 sides but I wouldn't downgrade an image that wasn't for that). Those pics are amazing and great examples.
