I thought I had read this somewhere but after a few different searches cannot find it. I cannot install the software from Canon that opens the .CR2 files/raw files out of the 20D and edits them. Is there something else that can/will open them and edit them?

I'm using the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in, works great for me. You can get it Here

Can't install either EOS Viewer Utility or Digital Photo Professional? You should be able to get both of these supplied programs going on your machine. Check the Canon site or contact Support.
What operating system are you running?

The viewer doesn't edit them and Digital Photo Pro won't run properly on Win 98 - need Xp. I tried.
I use PhotoImpact and this is the first thing I have not been able to do with this application. The RAW Import feature imports a picture that looks like colored snow on TV with one randomly placed tinted band through it somewhere.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS 2 HAS THE BEST RAW OPENING PROGRAM OF ANY COMPANY, IT CAME OUT RECENTLY. IT BLOWS AWAY THE CANON ONE. I HAVE USED BOTH MY CANON EOS 1DS AND MY PARTNERS 1DS MARK II AND IT DOES A WAY BETTER JOB THAN THE CANON SOFTWARE.
MY OPINION.

Have you tried Capture One? You can download a trial.

I found out that you have to transfer the images to a folder on your computer before you can edit them with Cannon viewer...
hope this helps, that's the problem I was having! :0)

Will EOS Viewer open them and convert them to .jpg for you?
Have you checked to see if there is an update for PhotoImpact that will open the .CR2 files from your 20D?
If RAW Shooter runs on 98 that may be your best bet. |

After digging deeper I found a small note on the bottom of one of the pages that says to open the toolbar if it is not showing do thi...and voila! The viewer does have a toolpanel that adjusts the raw images.
I have looked for a plug-in for PI but none yet found. The PS CS Raw 3.1 does not work in PI. I can use the Digital Photo that came with the EOS but only on my laptop and the screen on that is terrible so I would never trust an edit done on it.

Having tried many raw converter I find for myself that RAW Shooter Essential is the best of them all.
