While gray is a great color, I would like to see the ability to change the background color and text color of the website. This would be really cool, especially for challenge voting, since the image may look different if shown on top of a different colored background. Many many sites give users the option to change the color of the pages- Istockphoto.com is one that currently comes to mind. The user would have control of their particular website color selection, based on a selection on their preferences page. This is not a major php coding issue either, well, depending on the underlying design of this site.

Isn't it better to have all the voters seeing the same thing?

They are seeing the same image, just a different background. The user wouldn't be able to change people's images. hehe. :)
Well, the main site logo would have to have a transparent background to make this work, which it doesn't have right now. Or I guess you could make different logos with all the available background colors, but that would be more work.

No good for viewing challenge entries. As you said, they look different on different colored backgrounds. Voters should all be looking at the same thing, including background color, when they are judging the entries. For all other pages it would be OK.

this is weird, maybe your grey is my red, or my blue is your yellow. how will we ever know? colors are only responses by our brains, and everyone's brain is different....
