Why does this lens cost nearly $1200 when the 50 F1.4 costs only $300?
I really want the 35 F1.4 but not for that price!

The way I understand it, and it's a minimal understanding, it's a lot easier to make a 50mm lens (the human eye perspective) and the farther you get from 50mm either way (wide angle or telephoto), the more difficult it becomes to construct the lens and therefore the prices goes up.

to be fair you should be compairing the L version of the 50 to the L version of the 35 no? The price is a lot close that way.
Hmmm actually the 50mm L could cost well over $2000...

not fair that way either, the 50mm L is f1.0 and is outperformed in almost everything..exept speed and price by the 50mm f1.4 ;)
I want the 14mm f2.8, but way to expencive new. |

The Sigma 30 F1.4 looks nice, but not if it isn't sharp wide-open. Also, minimum aperture is F16, gonna need to go get an ND filter! How much do you expect it to cost?
