Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forum. I've been learning about photography in books and online and I've had some experience both film and digital. I've been taking pictures for about 3 years now (with the intention of getting good at it). Anywho, I just purchased a canon rebel xt 350d. I have it's film counterpart and I just had to have an SLR because my nikon coolpix 3400 is outdated and lacks the control I so desire to have (but i still like that its better than just a point-and-shoot). This is the first photo I've ever posted on anysite (I'm a very shy photographer... only family and close friends ever really see my work (and so I don't think I have ever gotten a non-biased review)). I was hoping to get some input as to what all of you think, I've seen many of the photos posted here and I love a good number of them.

The original photo was taken in color at night, but the lighting in my kitchen is poor and always casts a very yellow orange color in my pictures that I can never get rid of without White Balance and it always looks too fake after that. So I just desaturated it, and adjusted some levels to achieve a more artistic look. Let me know what you think please. By the way, my sister is 14 and I'm 21.

:(

Almost 26 mins, and no C&C? I hope it wasn't that bad? Is it too bright?

I actually like it ... bring out a tad more detail on the left side and it will rock

Thanks nomad469, I was beginning to think that it was one of the worst photos ever. I do think it needs more detail on the left side, but I only wanted the mouths line to appear, and I wanted the nose to almost completely disappear. I might be able to achieve what I want if I were to edit the photo intensively, I was experimenting more than anything. But I'm glad someone thought it almost rocked.

I like the idea ... and you are on the right tract IMHO ... define the lips a bit more ... I think that the image is cool ... I bit more defined however will go a long way.

The 3 things that catches attention on portraits... lips eyes and nostrils

Here is an update, the hateful part is that I have to start from the original image, because as you can imagine, the one i posted has lost an awful lot of information in the process of being turned into the final product.

I'd also like to add, because I don't see the point in creating a new topic, my dog 'Ewok' (yes from StarWars). I'd like any C&C on this photo too!

Wonderful! I'm glad.

Pickachu is cute, in my pic Ewok ("Emperor Ewokiwi") is depressed... no one ever plays with him.

Sorry - had to laugh. I have my forum threads in reverse order, read the topic, opened the thread and immediately saw this pic and thought that's either quite a bit of editing, or you've got one ugly sister. Hahaha.

...hmmm, gues ya had to be there. ;-)
