Good gawd, I feel like I'm married. I have a friend who's been away for 7 months, she just came back home. Her house is still being worked on, so she is bunking here. In other words, I have company and I've been entertaining. It rarely happens, but there ya have it :-)
Tonight, for example, we fed 6 for dinner, we were cooking from about noon on. Menu (all from scratch):
Spring rolls (with pork, bean sprouts, roasted sweet peppers, shredded leeks, shredded carrots, and a sesame oil/rice wine/garlic/ginger dipping sauce)
Whole chicken (marinated, poached, and smoked over tea leaves and brown sugar) cut into chiunks and reassembled on a bed of cucumber slices with a sesame oil/black soy glaze.
Jade Green Broccoli (blanched then stir-fried with ginger and garlic)
Szechuan Shrimp (split lengthwise, marinated in a savory batter and deepfried, then stir fried with szehchuan peppers, ginger and garlic and a soy sauce/tomato based reduction)
Steamed rice
Crystallized Ginger sorbet.
This kind of stuff takes a little time away from DPC, unfortunately.

Yeah but I'm not too busy right NOW... She's sleep, presumably from overeating...

Well, 20 years... now THAT's a separation. My friend winters in Florida and summers on the Cape, so this is an annual event, so to speak. The only difference being, this time her house isn't quite habitable at the moment...

I feel for your friend. We're general contractors here in Florida and there are a lot of people out of their homes. The insurance situation is a nightmare.
Hope she gets her home back soon.

NO no no... IN Florida she's fine. Was having some remodelling done HERE while she was THERE, and unseasonably cold, rainy weather has delayed the completion by about a week or so, no big deal. So she's bunking with me for the duration...

Robt. next time you have a great meal like that, don't forget to send me an invite. :-)
And here I had boring old chili for dinner tonight.

If I go back to America one day, may I too be invited for a meal like that?

If ANYONE shows up, they get a meal more or less liek that, but not always Chinese. Gibun is the exception, because he sent me a box of assorted chopsticks, so he is SURE to get Chinese. The rest of you may have to settle for Mexican, Italian, French, Pacific Rim Fusion, or good ol' BBQ, depending on my mood and yours.
All I ask is that the guests provide food. I'm on a very limited income, but I can cook :-)

Dinner for six?
"No problem," said the Bear.
"Sit right down and I'll fix
A Banquet for all to share."
And he did. Just like that.

Yes, exactly like that. As of 11 AM we were planning a simple dinner for the two of us, then we got a phone call... So off to the store we went, and spent the day cooking...

Rob,
I'm a poor college student. If I make the trip out there, can we split the bill for dinner please? I'll do the cleanup! :)

Fine by me. And anyway I can do a great job with cheap stuff... Total ingredient cost for this, not counting the shrimps, which are pricy but could have been pork instead, was maybe 15 dollah...

JV and Rob,
I'm in! I'll bring the sponge and dish soap. Now all I have to worry about is a plane ticket :). Too bad hitching isn't as easy as it used to be...
Maybe someday!
