DPC is a great community with some incredible people. I have been a part of this community for just over 6 months and the wealth of knowledge I have gained in this short period of time has improved my overall photography skills immensely. So thanks DPC and its members for what you have provided me to date and in the future.
I have seen some interesting profiles and posts on how people have improved with DPC. The apple challenge represented my 11th challenge since writing my goals for 2005 back in February and a perfect point to measure my progress with DPC.
First 11 challenges - 5.0958
highest rated - 5.942
lowest rated - 3.674
No images above 6.0
Last 11 challenges - 5.9640
highest rated - 6.588
lowest rated - 5.095
6 images above 6.0
In my last four challenges I haven't placed lower than 20th and I am averaging 6.4224.
8/377
15/180
20/161
12/485
I know that there are still some sub-5.0 scores ahead, but I also know that I will eventually crack the 7.0 barrier and attain that elusive ribbon.
Thanks again to the DPC community for making me a better photography and teaching me so much.
How has DPC helped you? Split your challenge entires in half and compare your initial results against your most recent. See if the DPC community is improving your skills and share your results.
Cheers,
Shawn

i have only been here since april 15(tacks day~heehee) and am currenty in my 5th challenge. i couldnt let a chance go by to thank all my fellow DPCers for all the help they have offered( and willingly to!). In my very short time here i have learn an immense amount about improving my photography skills and about PS techniques.to prove my point here are my stats...lowest score(1st challenge rock, paper, scissors) 4%@3.984~last challenge(apple)77%@5.599. i know this is a big jump in such a short amount of time but i have everyone here to thank for it*bows gracefully* and i plan to keep learning all i can.

25 challenges -- i think i've skipped 2 (?) since Late Feb
6 are higher than 6
10 are lower than 5.5
12 favotites !!!
from my scores i find it more cycle based ....
though lighting & granular are running higher than 6 (i'm on a roll ;)
likely will skip Beauty because i can't define it
and still have a long time to decide about Decisions ...
& still having fun

I've been a memeber for approaching 2 years and I was participating semi-regularly, but I landed a new job almost 1.5 years ago, and it's eating my kidneys with fava beans and a nice chianti -- "Advertising: it's the Hanibal Lechter of jobs". Now there's an endorsement.
So, not only do I have not much time to shoot, I'm really pretty brain dead after the day, so my scores have been PLUMETING not improving.
Here's my next slogan: "Work, it makes you too stupid to realize your entry is crap!"
Sad, really. Not that I'm bitter about it.

I have my stats broken down[2004 / 2005 / Overall] on my profile page. Not near as good as most users but I'm improving :)

10 challenges.
First 5, low 5.2, high 6.7
Second 5, low 5.2, high 6.7 Doesn't look like progress, eh?
Trying to enter more than usual, entered in both lighting and granular, lighting running 6.3, granular 5.7.
What I enjoy here the most is stretching my brain thematically by reviewing the other entries post-challenge, both from the diversity of the submissions to how my votes stacked up against the community's.

Almost to 100 challenges that I have entered...
Have I improved, well maybe not by my scores for my entries in challenges but my personal pictures yes indeed! I am working on it... I shall not give up just because the majority gave my picture all 1's in the voting time....
I admitt a lot of my entries deserve what they have gotten but really the score doesnt matter... I am shooting for me... Its all in how you look at it...
What I really enjoy here the most is all the recourses, the diversity of the members here, feedback, questions answered quickly and very indept, though most of all friendships and all the fun....

My first ten had an average vote received of 5.77 with only 9 favourites and one top ten.
My second ten had an average vote received of 6.28 with 42 favourites, 3 top tens and a ribbon.
Of course my improvement is a little hard to measure - I upgraded from a point and shoot to a dSLR after my ninth challenge :). Some would call that a 'confounding variable.'
Either way, this site rocks....
and besides, if I hadn't stumbled across dpc I likely wouldn't have had the impetus to buy a new camera.
