Wow...close up shows one passage where one combatant had his lance behind his opponent's shield. That is a very dangerous blow. Many a man has bled badly and died with a splintered lance up his arm pit. The close crop on that one makes it much more dramatic.

I think you are referring to this one? I'm not certain, but it appears to me as if his lance has split in half on the shield, with half of it in front of the shield and the other half, closest to us, going behind the shield. I could be wrong, but there is something red and white striped in front of the shield too!
