If battery life is a major concern (it is for me) stick with Centrino processors and get one from dell. There are often special deals you can find at //www.techbargains.com or //www.supercoupon.com . Get a lot of memory (512mb+) especially if you'll be using PS or other editing software. Editing software can bog down systems with too little memory very very very quickly. If you want raw power, I would check out //www.sagernotebooks.com they're the company that makes the laptops for //www.alienware.com (computers for hardcore gamers).

I looked at Sager back when I was buying mine (went with Toshiba) as I wasn't expecting to take my 17" very often and when I do I always have it in it's back pack with it's powerpack. It had a Pentium IV processor and uses like 400watts (can't even run it off my truck with a power inverter) *lol*

But kyebosh is right, if you are worried about battery life upgrade the laptop to 2gigs. This will allow much of the processing to be done just in memory and not have to hit the hard drive as often. The result - longer battery life.
