Yosemite is in rare form right now. Thanks to the rain, hot weather, and flooding the park is extra amazing. If you're in the area it would be worth a visit.

Nice photos, TS! I was in Yosemite a few months ago and had a lot of fun shooting all the water and snow together. Of course, there was none of that great vegetation or any of the standing water around the falls that you were able to capture. I'll second what you said - anyone who has a chance should go visit the park.

VERY nice, 'shroomy. 3 and 5 are especially fine. This from someone who used to LIVE at Yosemite for a month each summer, and taught there...

Unfortunately these photos pale in comparison to experiencing it first hand. Bridalveil Fall (#3 from left) was particularly awesome. The cloud of mist was all the way down to the parking area and Southside Drive. Half way up the trail it was like walking in a rain forest. A little further and it felt like a torrential downpour. Just to get to the viewing area you had to walk through about 6" deep of rushing water because the fall had overflowed its normal banks.
We only had a day and a half there. Not nearly enough time. |

Thanks for sharing, those are really nice! Your Bridalveil photo (#3) is my favorite. I'm going on the 11th, and I'm really excited! Just me and my camera for 3 days running around, wife and kid are staying home. I've only been there in fall when there's not that much water. I'm hoping they have Glacier Point road open by then, they said Mid-June.

We stayed at the Yosemite View Lodge just outside the park. Expensive but comfortable. The hotel overlooks the Merced River. We were within 20 feet of it actually. The roar was so loud from our balcony that we could barely hear ourselves talk. It was great. Every room has a spa tub and a kitchenette. They also have a restaurant but it wasn't open when we left early in the morning and closed at 9 pm which was before we got back from the park. Looked nice though.

If anyone who's going can afford it, and can get a room, there's no better place to stay than the Ahwanee, right within the park itself, at the fringe of the main meadow. They have an awesome dining room. I was fortunate enough to stay there twice, and it was worth every dollar. Ansel Adams used to host the annual Bracebridge Dinner there; it's still a sellout every year, with tickets by lottery.

Superb set of shots indeed. Did you get to Mirror Lake - the shots looking towards Yosemite Falls remind me of it (taken from a waterlogged plain?).
How many shots did you take? I ended up with thousands and I still haven't finished sifting through them! As has been said before, it's difficult to do this place justice - simply awe inspiring.
A few of mine here:

Since I'm going by myself, I chose the no frills route and got a "cabin tent" for both nights. That still cost me 75 bucks a night for a frickin' tent! I've always admired the Awahnee from afar, maybe someday I'll be able to afford it, I might have to bring the wife along for that one though. ;-)
What time was that Bridalveil shot? I was hoping to get a late afternoon shot like that with the sun lighting it up. I'm trying to budget my time and even a half-hour can make a big difference in lighting there. I hope to get up to Glacier Point or Sentinel Dome for sunset shots of Half Dome if the road is open by then. |

Great pictures technoshroom. I have been there a few times, but never found it so flooded. The reflections look great. I wish I could go this weekend, but I am off to florida.

Wow, excellent photos! I wish I could go this week, but I'm heading to the coast for the long weekend. Do you think the valley will still be flooded the weekend after Memorial Day?

I know there's still going to be a TON of water, but hopefully it wont be flooded on the roads. Reports said that the worst is over, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. |

Thanks, we didn't get to Mirror Lake. Yosemite was just a small portion of the trip. Unfortunately, the first part of the trip was to my grandparents to finish building a rock wall. During that work I slipped and fell while carrying a 40lb rock and twisted my ankle, scraped my leg, and re-injured an old hip injury. The ankle and scrapes were fine by the time we reached Yosemite but the hip hurt like hell so long walks were not going to happen. Very annoying considering I really wanted to get to Vernal Fall during our visit. I ended up with a little over a hundred shots from around the valley. Mostly exploring different angles and times of day for the various subjects.
The first photo of Yosemite Falls (#2) was taken from the parking area near Sentinel Bridge. 10 second exposure at 8:19 pm. The second photo of Yosemite Falls (#5) was taken from Swinging Bridge at 8:21 am the following day. The water was within 3" of coming over the top of the bridge and the entire north side of the meadow was flooded.

The Bridalveil photo was taken at 7:11 pm. It was changing throughout the day so you may find a view you like at any time. Around noon the mist and fall started to be really lit while the cliff was still dark.

I don't know. The snow pack was 179% of normal and the weather has been really hot so it's melting fast. I would say it's a good bet that some sections will still be flooded then but calling the park and asking a ranger would be your best bet. When we first got there all the roads were dry but on Sunday night Northside Drive under El Capitan had about an inch of water pouring over the sandbags.
The only thing I can really suggest is going as early as you can. Not only early as in the date but early in the day. We didn't experience any traffic but heard from a couple other visitors we chatted with about traffic jams getting into the park. We were in the park by 6:30 am so it didn't affect us but they said early afternoon was insane. |

Beautiful shots. I was there in 93 during the first 2 weeks of June. I couldn't get over the piles of snow along the side of the road where it had been cleared by snowploughs. Fortunately it was just opened prior.
The sad thing is I lost all the photos of my hike when a box of my possessions were stolen in Korea enroute to New York from Australia. Grrr.
TIP: Never send the negatives along with photos when shipping overseas. With digital it's a different story now.
