Are we allowed to have borders that contain texture? or does it have to be single colors?

Also, do borders have to be uniform size? That is, be say, 10 pixels in from the edges, or can they be different on each side?

There was a photo in a challenge a while back that consisted of a traslucent vignetting effect around the image (differing but symmetrical widths) so I imagine that anything goes these days.

Well the rules says you can't have photos inside the borders, so i take that as "textures" are out too?

From the rules:

'but the border may not contain any text, clip art, photographs, or other artwork.'

So what's 'other artwork' mean? Would a drop shadow consist of artwork?

That's what i am asking, partly. Would textures be artwork? Probably so i guess. I have seen a dropped shadow one (blurring) this challenge too.

I'm guessing that they're fairly liberal with interpretations, but vote-wise you'd probably get slammed.

I'm a guilty borderer...but the most recent response in Site Council discussions seems to be "anything goes" with borders, except as stated in the rules regarding adding outside art or text. I don't use any otherwise-illegal filters either.

Many people are complaining about my border this week -- I'm doing much better than expected, considering! But I'm concerned that people don't think it illegal enough to request a DQ, in which case my score may be a bit lower than otherwise...it would be good to get a definitive ruling -- maybe create a gallery with samples of legal and illegal borders...

For now, enjoy the triptych challenge where it's REALLY anything goes, and a border is almost a requirement.
