...THAT's beautiful
05/25/2005 10:03:36 PM · #27
To elaborate on Bearmusic's statement, this challenge can be approached more as a test or display of your photographic eye. There is always a desire to embrace a majestic subject rather than common subject. But the intent should be to create a photographic feast for the eyes. Now, while technique may help with many shots, it is first the special treatment that the subject receives.

What will win will be a presentation that begs praise for its beauty. An image that is a pleasure to look at. A fertile eye can extract beauty from any subject he feels an affinity for. The important thing is to present an image that is itself beautiful. This is quite a demanding challenge.

What the man said... To look at the ordinary, and make it extraordinary, should be what wins this challenge. If you've seen it a hundred times before and it's been beautiful every time, it ought not win this challenge.

Seek out beauty, people! Find it in the less obvious places! Show it to us in all its glory! Don't swamp us with sunsets and waves and lissome lasses and glowing flowers, we've SEEN all those things and we KNOW they're beautiful. Use this opportunity to do something special! Make the ordinary, even the banal, sing!

You're welcome. It deserves linkage. It's my favorite portrait on the site. :)

Au contraire mon frere. This is not demanding at all, nor challenging. Users can enter almost anything they shoot this week and claim it is beautiful. As we all know too well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And who's to say that your beauty does not fit the challenge? What Robert keeps saying only gives them even more latitude to enter anything from the unusual to the ordinary, be it beautiful or ugly.

Difficult to win as they all are, but not demanding at all to find a shot to enter.

"It takes class to wink at an uncomely girl."

Show me inner beauty.
