The silhouettes challenge has been the most difficult to vote during my short time with DPC due to the number of great entries. However, I am slightly perplexed as to how the winning shot, well, won! Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic shot and my initial reaction was TEN!. But the cloning, by the photographers own admission, is very poor. I saw this when I looked at the picture more closely and decided I had to lower my score. With the quality of the entries, it seems a little odd that a picture with those flaws still won.
What do you think? Did lots of people miss the cloning, or was the photo just too good to reduce marks?
PS Sorry Pedro, nothing personal and still a fantastic picture. |

It's pretty simple, really, and even admirable; the voters saw so much power in the image that they overlooked its imperfections. Art triumphed over techniques. To which I say "Bravo!", and "I wish this happened more often!".

Thanks for the response, Bear. I agree with you to some degree, the effect the picture had on me was "wow, what a shot". I scored it a 9 rather than a 10, which was one of three 9s I gave during the voting, so I did not mark it down a lot!
I enjoyed your picture too, well done on the 18th! This challenge was my most successful so far and apart from one slipup in "Five", I'm slowly moving in the right direction. |

Imperfection on a very unique and powerful emotionally moving image. Hence it won.
We live in an imperfect world. People can "always" find an imperfection. But not always can they find something to move them.
The photo had a majestic feeling crossed with an eery almost disturbingly haunting feeling.
