These guys are members of a rap music group and asked me to take some pictures of them today. I got $50 for the gig and it really didn't take long. They also signed model releases so I can use the shots. :))

Critiques?

Thanks guys,

Nice photos, third one has some scratches on his wrist that need virtual healing.

Very nice shoots.

Something about the colors in the third shot that I haven't quite figured out yet, might be the skin tones don't look quite right??.

I don't know if you intended these to be stock shots or portraits...but they (IMO)tend to lean toward the portrait (very nice ones at that) side (like I know anything about stock photography). DOF is very important when shooting stock.

The second works as a stock photo as all of the subject is in focus.

The first shot the crop is tight and the dof is super shallow (falls off just in front of the ears)...lending to the portrait feel.

The first and second are excellent shots, and with a tad bit of touch the third could be quite nice.

Just my two cents...

The band wanted to have two sides represented by the pictures I took. They wanted people to see they're gangsta side as well as their refined business man side. Here are some shots.

Little different side of the group, eh?

Chris

EDIT: HERE is a link to more info and a music sample of the band.

what settings did you use for the smoke one? I've been meaning to try to get photo w/ smoke in it but have no clue how to get about doing one. So my question would be flash or no flash and then what shutter speed and aperature combo? thanks...

My favourite of the bunch is the first one of the first set. I think the shallow dof works very well in it and the lighting on the face is very good as well.
