I've been out in the back yard the last few mornings trying to photograph some doves that are actively building nests. They are really easy to shoot when perched somewhere, but they are fast as heck on the wing. Even 1/2000th sec doesn't freeze the wings. I had to prefocus and wait for the most part. Finally was able to capture an image of something a little slower! All photos taken with my Canon 75-300IS handheld. Boy, am I lusting for a f/2.8 120-300!

Wow! Great shots! I really like the 2nd and 3rd ones.
...but when I read the topic, I thought this was a recipe post. :P

Mourning Dove..
(Zenaida macroura)

Cool fact: Mourning Doves feed their nestlings crop milk or "pigeon milk," which is secreted by the crop lining. This is an extremely nutritious food with more protein and fat than is found in either cow or human milk.

That will be all from Mrs. Wizard. :)

.....and I thought it was an Aesop fable (the snail wins, by the way).

Now that's a thread worth bookmarking! The mopane worm sounds like mo'pain than I want.
