Yep you made sense damian. I looked up my zoom - mm conversion for my camera in the manual it said 7.2mm-50.8mm does that sound right? I have never heard any of you mention single digit mm's in a lense.

The best way to figure everything out is to go out and buy the d70 right now. Go out and have fun! ; )

I would but I will have to sell my minolta to afford it. I will only be able to afford the 1 lens that comes with the kit. So I would be realy limited on what I could shoot. I think I will wait until I have enough cash to get a couple lenses for it. I don't think I will be happy with it without a couple and would regret the choice.

the crop factor - very few dSLRs have full size sensors, so the actual range of the lenses need to be multiplied by the crop factor (a rebel is 1.6, the nikon D70/100 is 1.5, i think the D2x is 1.3, etc)
...

The D2X is 1.5x crop, Nikon does not have sensors bigger than 1.5x crop. Canon has 1.6x crop (300D, 350XT, 10D, 20D), 1.3x Crop (1D, 1D Mark II) and Full Frame (1Ds and 1Ds Mark II)

Check out my portfolio, almost all were done with the 18-70, some with the 50mm 1.8. So its not like I have a huge zoom, you wont be limited if your willing to hop over a couple of rivers to get to the best angles and most beautiful places :)

Perhaps someone should turn this into a DPC beginers guide for glass. This would a usefull tool for anyone looking to make this upgrade.

On a dSLR it goes between the lens and the body.

There is no reason why you cant use a front fitting teleconverer with a dSLR (I frequently use my TCON-17 with my 50mm and 70-210mm), and you get the added benefit of not losing any light :)
