I was talking with a guy yesterday who told me that the arenas for NBA and some college basketball have strobe lights built-in to the lighting system. So the photogs that are shooting just hook into a sync cable that comes up through the floor and they have "stadium" strobes everytime they shoot. That most arenas have several systems to accomodate the various press personel!

I was nice during the conversation, but I gotta say "REALLY?"!

It seems to me that the arena would feel like papparazzi central to all watching and to the TV viewing audience. I thought those guys were just shooting with f"next to nothing" lenses and a good staff of de-grainers.

Anybody have any experience or knowledge that can confirm or deny this allegation?

The stadiums dont put the lights in, the photographers do or the press assosiation. They would frown on you using their lights.
