I used to run a small IT business in the late 90's and had a few friends that would take advantage in the same kind of way, in the end I made a clean install and gave them an image on CD, then when they called me I could just say 'put in the recovery disc', after losing their stuff once or twice they became better at both avoiding problems and making backups :)

I just love when people call me because they can't find the "any" key on their keyboard :)

I also like the idea of locking out websites. I did it to my old work computer and loved the look on some peoples faces when they tried to get to eBay and ticketmaster. We had one employee that was using the work computer to run his eBay store for concert tickets. Shut that down.

Yup...had to do this with my son... Just told him nope your screwed you will have to fix it yourself... He ended up rebuilding twice and then he got the idea...

As far as (L)users as we call them and they come in both the pc and mac variety...I've been doing this for a lot of years (well before al gore invented the internet...rofl) anyone remember 75 baud modems? I have tons of stories of just flat out stupidity. I had a blog once about my daily activities but I just couldn't keep it up as there was too much to choose from.

My favorite was the salesman that I was showing him how to use his new sales program on his laptop...told him to click right there (pointing at an icon on the screen)...he picked up the mouse and placed it on the screen and clicked. I told him to go back to the office that he was sitting in and that he could probably expect a call from HR.

As for watching peoples activities at work (one of the things I did in the Marines) it is a blast...everyone thinks they are so smart and sneaky well I gotz some news for them... their not very good at it... I love nothing more than to put Netnanny on a Directors computer to give em a little scare every once in a while and remind them that they can't go there.

my boss opens every provocative spam email he gets so that he can see "boobies."

i keep telling him that opening the messages just leads to more spam, but he still does it.

now he complains that he gets too much spam (>500 messages a day) and it's all my fault. he won't change email clients and no one else has that serious of a problem with it, so i just let him keep looking at boobies and ignore the complaints. *shrug*

Having an online backup that automatically backs up at regular intervals (eg daily)would help solve this as you could download a clean copy of your files after using a virus killer.

Get on your bosses computer when he's not around and forward some of them to his boss, adding "I was just surfin the porn sites and got these emails, thought you might like 'em"

Then you'll get the promotion you deserve! ;-)
