I have sold prints via DPC Prints for a while, though all but 13 sales were part of the charity project I finished recently. And the prints I gave to the charity auction last month sold for silly money that I could only dream about achieving in normal sales.
But, today I sold two 8x10 prints, to be matted up (final size = 30x40cm) and signed on the matte, on my own!
Basically, I had some inexpensive DPC Prints business cards done up when I did my charity project but had the foresight not to include any text specific to the project. All I put was the Tomboy image which fills the whole card but fades at the bottom where the text goes, and the text "Photography by Kavita Favelle" and my DPCPrints web address. And then Vistaprint sent me one of their regular offers to try for free the new business card magnets - just paying postage. So I did that and got magnets of that same card.
Well I gave a couple of these magnets to some people I work with and one gave his to his girlfriend for her fridge and she took the time to write to me, someone she didn't even know, to say how much she liked my work! Since then we've emailed, hope to meet up socially and today I just made this sale to her. I hope I'm not under or overcharging - I said £25 each for the two matted prints.

Now that surprises me Kavey. You have so many gorgeous images in your gallery. Get out there with those business cards and spread the word.

Oh wait. DUH. Second sale.
One of the people at the charity auction liked one of the prints (Blue and Gold) so approached me later to ask if she could buy one. Instead of price, we negotiated a swap - the print matted and signed for a book of fabulous photographs her company had released recently.
That sort of counts as a sale, I guess.

Add me to the surprised people that can't believe you haven't sold more. You have some great work in there and if you get out there you could get a lot more sales generated. Congrats to you.

Aaw thanks guys!
I do have two planned approaches in mind at the moment:
1) To approach local cafes, restaurants and galleries to see if they will hang/ sell my work
2) To get some of my images onto stock agencies (such as Alamy)
In terms of private sales I don't know where to start really... these ones just kind of happened!
Also, I'm don't know whether I should sell prints of the same images I then put up at a site like Alamy. I know that even those stock agencies that want exclusivity don't generally stop the photographer from selling using their own images for private prints, sales, exhibition etc but I don't know what the normal (professional?) approach is...

One question for you off subject. Why haven't you entered any challenges lately? If you don't want the 20D you can give it to me. ;-)

I'm not generally that motivated by the challenges... mostly because it doesn't match my style of shooting - which is to be out and about and simply inspired by what I see to take what I fancy taking. I just don't do very well at (or much enjoy) trying to take images to a theme. Every now and then I feel like doing so but... not often. And if I do feel inspired by a theme it's unlikely the idea will germinate within the tight timeframe of a week.
I do learn a huge amount from DPC though - from looking at a huge selection of wonderful images, from commenting, from reading and posting in forums, from talking to people in chat and from following up recommendations on websites and books that can help...
