so I misspelled my title.
so everyone just look at the title and give me a big fat zero.
the pix does not matter now since my novice attempt is null and void since I did not use a spell check.
so i know that some of you rely on the dynamics of spelling and not the strenght of a pix, so give me a zero. give me a turd. just erase the pix off of your screen. call in a huge DQ.
my spelling sucks so banish me from this theme, and any other future themes, and posts.
I hope some words in this post is misspelled so that you don't have to read it.

Don't feel bad. I messed up my title to this shot and now I cannot change it. And yes it was pointed out to me in the challenge. I just took it with a grain of salt. Everyone makes mistakes.

I don't feel bad, but if my score is going down because of a misspelling, and not because the pix is bad, then so be it.
Take me out.
The pix deserves better, not to be dishonored over me not knowing my spelling. I put an 'i' where and 'e' should of been. Oh my gosh.
So zero me out.

If you feel like it deserves a higher score and you feel that the miss spelling is hurting your score click on help and contact then send an email to the Admins and SC and see if they can fix the mistake while voting is going on. I don't know if they can but I know they can fix a thread title. So maybe they can. I wish you luck and hope your photo does as well as it deserves and not based on a mistake. |

I work 70 hour weeks sometimes, and ya know, I get tired.
Some members are on this forum all the time, and just don't have a life but this forum.
I really don't deserve to have my pix looked at because of my reckless, misspelling.
Hell, my vowels, and my nouns, and adjectives in each of my threads, and posts should also be scrutinized for I may be in breach of some ones spell checking fantasies. oops, I think I misspelled.

You don't have to explain yourself. I agree a photo should not be judged by a spelling mistake in the title. It should be judged as a photograph. Like I said contact the admins and see if it can be changed. Let them know that you feel it is being voted down possibly because of the mistake. The Admins and SC members will do what is in there power to fix it, if they can. I wish you the best. |

A quote from your bio- Of course, rules are there to be broken, so I will also consider the theme, the title, and the artist as well when possible.
Calm down, live to see your grandkids. |

no reason to get too angry, but am there with you too, I mispelled a title on a current challenge and I voter told me they are marking me down for my mistake, some people have strange ideas on how to rate photographs, my son entered a challenge last week with out a title and got dinged for that as well, go figure, life goes on.... |

Sheesh, why stop there? Why not just submit a photo that looks terrible... it doesn't matter. Why is everyone quibbling so much about the shot being out of focus, can't they see what the photo is supposed to be? I have a life you know, I can't always be expected to make sure the shot is in focus. |

Man I am gonna get reamed for this. If you have a print with the title misspelled would you sell it? I think no one would buy it. I don't take away points for misspelled titles but people need to check that before voting starts so it is right and that is my opinion.

I'm with Rex on this. You work 70 hours a week and didn't have time to check spelling, but you have time to file this rant and log in multiple posts on it?
Maybe next time just find an extra 30 seconds and spellcheck the title, and you won't have to waste more of your valuable time ranting about people who'll take the spelling/mis-spelling of your title as an integral part of the image presentation.
FYI, I do look at the image as an image, and don't deduct for badly or creatively spelled titles. Being sloppy is your prerogative, describing those who'd call you sloppy for it as anal is also your privilege. The only downside is that some people might interpret it as you not caring enough about how your image is evaluated as a package. That's their RIGHT, as well. It's a free, free world we're living in.

Now, this is entirely about something else, and maybe some of those people who "just don't have a life but this forum" should really take offense.

Swinging, I can't help but notice that in your very own bio you state that you consider the title in your voting.
I know you are disappointed, but surely you can't condemn others for what you do yourself? |

I'm just going to point something out here. I'm one of millions of Americans who suffer from a learning disorder known as dyslexia. This is a neurological disease characterized by difficulty in accurate and / or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.
In short, I tend to reverse letters when I write and my spelling is more phonetically based. I use spell check in about 80 percent of what I write. It becomes time consuming for me to spell check every single post I make to internet forums. (Open word, copy text to word, spell check in word, copy back.) That may not sound like much effort, but trust me. If you do it EVERY single day, day after day, week after week it adds up.
In a chat situation, there is just no way for me to spell check. So over time, I've just stopped spell checking. I spell check important things, but I relax in other places. It's frankly too anxiety provoking and time consuming for me to constantly worry about it.
We have people on this site who do not speak english as a first language. We have people on this site who are dyslexic. We also have people on this site who are just careless. Please keep in mind the diverse nature of this site BEFORE you start commenting on an individual's spelling prowess. :)

For you to be able to string together that series of mis-spelled words, you must know "how to spell." So, what's your point?
And yeah, Rex, I'm two for two with you today.

I bought a wonderful photo poster of Venice for the house and only realised when I got home it was titled in beautiful bold letters
"The Brigde of Sighs" !! |

I understand what you are saying and I know this site is worldwide. On titles though if someones language is say German then I would rather them title in German then to try and translate to English and get it wrong. I for one would not know how to spell in German or speak for that matter and would not know if they misspelled.

I think there's a huge difference in expecting superb English skills here in forum or in chat rooms and considering it desirable in the presentation of one's artwork for judgement.
I don't think anyone's saying you must not include mistakes in your titles. Some us are just being honest enough to step forward and say that it does have an impact on our judgement of the overall package presented to us. Even those who don't realise that it does may well be subconsiously taking it into account in their overall opinion. As someone who loves using the French language but is aware how many mistakes she makes in it, I sympathise with those who have reasons for finding it more difficult than others to write in English. But I can't lie and say that a poorly spelled title has no impact on me at all.
The entire voting process is subjective so calling people anal and insulting them for the way they form their opinion just doesn't strike me as very useful.

Apologies if there was a perception that some opinions on the "anal" side of the spelling argument may seem insensitive to other members within the DPC family.

I am in no way, shape or form implying that spelling isn't important. :) Trust me, I know just how critical it is.
I would as always hope that my post hasn't insulted anyone. :)
I just wanted to point out that there are some legit reasons out there for titles to be misspelled. Once someone hits the submit button, you can't go back and fix it. If a person is in Japan, has a spelling or grammar error in their entry there is a good chance that he is not going to catch it. Once it's pointed out to him, odds are he would want to correct it. But due to the nature of DPC, he can't.
I don't expect people to change how the vote. Title is a critical part of the image. I hope that people might read this and consider giving someone the benifit of the doubt. I consider that a useful thing. :)
Now this foray into the world of Devil's Advocate does not mean those who wander around misspelling titles for challenge entries get to call others nasty names. :) I know good and well that every time I do not spell check a post on DPC I open myself up to the spelling cops. I've lived with that the past 10 years. I accept it and move on.
If you do misspell something, live, learn, and move on. At the end of the day, this is the internet, this is photography, and this is not the end of the world as we know it. :)
