Why don't people when submit a photo on the portfolio for people to see why don't they fill the blanks about aperture, exposure, iso, etc...
The DPC has managed to put the feature of the lens and i don't see people use this... why ask for things when you don't use them...
I always like to see what lens was used or aperture, exposure, etc...
But no people just post the photo and don't put anything else...
WHY?

I do admit that I almost never entered these information for portfolio shot. Now that I have a DSLR, I realize with the lens features that it's very important and I'm going the fill them as of now.

I've always wondered why the submit form can't just have a little tickbox to read the exif data for you and fill them in automagically... any freebie php gallery can do it, so why isn't there such a feature here?

That'd be great if the edited version kept the EXIF data.

It's even more of a faux pas when someone puts a shot into a forum thread asking for critique but doesn't bother to fill in the exposure info.

I always check to see what lens are used, especially Macros as I want to purchase one myself one day and am disappointed when folks leave it blank. I also like to see where the photos are taken. |

All mine always do, it's only photoshop's crappy "save for web" business that strips it. A lot of people do use other editors, and some don't edit at all... i think it would be a very popular feature.

I thought the upload process for DPChallenge stripped all of the EXIF data automatically anyway. Certainly, none of my shots still have EXIF data by the time I redownload them. Or is that only true of the challenges?
Edit: Nope, just checked. An image I added to my portfolio today has EXIF on my hard drive, but not on the image displayed by DPC.

But before the script strips it, it could read it and fill in the forms for you... half a dozen lines of perl at the most... just a thought :)

I pretty much always add this information. The only one I'll generally skip is shutter speed, and maybe aperature, if I can't remember what it is, and finding the original in my directories is too much work at that moment :)

I totaly agree with u Discraft. when i make my submission for a challenge i always fill in the ap.,shutter&iso( as i thought it was required for submission). if i had a DSLR camera where i could change lenses i would also add that in the comments section. I use that section to post post-processing steps used with maybe additional info. hope everyone begins to use this feature as it definately would help me decide what lenses and Dslr camera to purchase.:o)

The photoshop save for web facility is designed to give as much pixel quality as possible for a given image size. It does this by stripping out information such as Exif to create more file space which is why I prefer to use it.
After all this is an online photo competition where you are marked on the online quality of the image. By not utilising this type of feature, ones runs the risk of not showing your photograph at its best.... |
