I'm really an artist just learning photography. I've taken some really good photos, and some not so good ones (re. my triangle entry). I appreciate all of the feedback I've been getting on that.

My problem is that I see things that others don't and sometimes wonder if these things are interesting, or just plain silly. I like them, and that's all that really matters; however, I'd love to hear what others think, from a technical & creative standpoint.

I don't love my Canon Power Shot A80, and can't wait to get an SLR. The focus and DOF give me fits.

If anyone feels compelled to look at these and give me some pointers, I'd be grateful.

Sorry So Big! I can't make it work any other way.

P.S. I know a polarizing filter would be good for the beetle. But I don't have one. I was going for the reflections because of the colors.

Re the beetle: I have a problem with looking at dead creatures. I would much rather look at a live one running away :-(
But even if it was alive, the harsh bright spots don't help. Perhaps a bigger DOF would be good, too (which you SHOULD be able to do with your camera, too). The background and composition are not terribly exciting. But hey, it's one heck of a beetle and well worth being a subject!!

The tree stump: I'm trying to figure out how to improve that one..... perhaps taking that photo very very early or late in the day so that the sun creates interesting shadows that might add to the photo?

Excellent! That's exactly what I need to hear. Thanks for taking the time.
