Beauty is very hard to describe, but we all know it when we see it. Take a photo that makes the viewer say "Thats Beautiful"

I think that would be an awesome topic!

IMHO too subjective. Besides, that's all we need is people telling us our models are not beautiful. Isn't there enough judgement in the world without this sort of thing?

it doesn't have to be a model. there are plenty of other things that get photographed that people think are beautiful.

'attractive' is subjective.. In a beauty contest, It's obvious that people judge higher for their opinion of 'attractive'. Anything else is like saying mrs america is actually judged on poise.. ack! not true. If it were they would have no use for the swimsuit part of the competition. It's this sort of thing that turns young girls anorexic (spelling?) or makes young boys shoot up schools. Why can't we all just acknowledge that everyone has some beauty.. By making a competition out of beauty you put way too much emphasis on how people look as opposed to who they are. it's dispicable.

As far as non-human entries for this sort of challenge.. it's also subjective based on your likes and dislikes.. If I hate the ocean, it's not that beautiful to me.

all this really judges is how we as artists and picture viewers relate to each other... and how alike our tastes are. I've taken a thousand beautiful photos, doesn't mean others see it that way. It only serves to hinder our own beliefs when people tell you your idea of beauty is wrong

That would be a boring challenge because everyone would have to take a photo of me.

;-)

I thought we were trying to make people say "That's Beautiful" with every challenge entry we submit. This would be unlimited in subject matter which, IMHO, makes it not very challenging. I'd say it needs to be narrowed quite a bit.

They need to add this rule: The phrase "eye of the beholder" IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE TITLE!

I'm sure we'll see at least five of those. :(

To each their own
Beauty is only skin deep
One mans meat is another mans poison
My beautiful launderette......

From Robinson Jeffers:

Look how beautiful are all the things that He does;
His signature is the beauty of things.

*****

The beauty of things is in the beholder's brain ΓΆ€”
The human mind's translation of their
transhuman, intrinsic value.

*****

As mathematics, a human invention
that parallels but never touches reality,
gives the astronomer metaphors
by which he may understand the power and the flow of things,
so the human sense of beauty is our metaphor
of their excellence, their divine nature;
like dust in a whirlwind, making the wild wind visible.
