The Encyclopedia of Chicago, published by the Chicago Historical Society, went online about 3 days ago. The book, which is over 1000 pages, came out last fall. I paid about $65 for it, but it was worth it. This is fascinating reading for anybody living in or familiar with the Chicago area, and for that matter anybody who wants to learn more about Chicago.
This encyclopedia features historical and demographic articles about every Chicago neighborhood and suburb; just plug in the name into their online search engine. This website is free with no strings attached; no registration or membership required, no advertising or check boxes asking for donations. Just go there and read all you want.
