I had the honour of 172nd and feel disappointed with my result too. Having looked at what is above 172nd, the effort was definitely not worth the result. Granted, it is a poor picture regarding lighting and focus, but so are a lot of others, imo.

Hey ho, we'll thrash them next time, eh, Dahkota?

Well, for me it won't be in triangles or outside in. And its cloudy here - no sunrise or sunset, no ocean close enough so silhouettes probably won't do it either. However, I finally learned layers in photoshop (barely) so maybe something good can come out of the next few. I can guarantee though, it won't be flowers, babies, pets, eggs, pool balls, bridge supports, trees, houses, birds...

:)

When I look at this image I see a house and no relation to 5 with the main subject (BTW, I didn't vote on this challenge or enter).

The image itself is well exposed and the composition seems to work but no main subject related to the topic. If this is what others say then that would explain the low scores.

I think that if you're being honest with yourself, you would admit that this photo was not taken with the challenge in mind.

It's a beautiful photograph, but I think you picked a photo that you already had because you didn't go out to look for something. And because you justified its relevance so thoroughly in your head, you started to recognize the trees as prominent subjects, when they aren't.

I feel Sprite nailed the reason for your score , Mr. Quixote.

In your own words, "Took the boat out this evening just before sunset to shoot some lake side houses. I discovered there were 5 big trees in this photo and rushed home to edit and submit."

Perhaps pre-shot planning is the best equipment a photographer can pack and unpack.
