Guess I wasn't too good at math (or reading the rules) a year ago when I jumped into DPC and entered my first challenge: Wheels
Just noticed the submission dates: (3/31/2004 - 4/6/2004) and realized after fiddling with some of my old
Costa Rica shots yesterday, I had taken my shot before the dates (was taken on 3/18/04). A newbie mistake.
Image in question was:

I wish I could figure out how to disqualify some of my older shots that didn't do very well ...

Hehe, quit whining! I know you are only making this up to try to increase your average score :o)
(just to be clear, I am kidding of course) |

Hehehe - me too, but I would be asking this same question
had it scored a 7.50 - need have a level playing field here.
What's acually funny is that when I looked at the scoring breakdown, my eyes went to this first: Avg (commenters): 5.625 and was thinking that was what the score was.
4.7, 5.6 7.bazillion, makes no difference here.

As long as we're all coming clean. All of my photos that placed below 10th place were taken outside the challenge periods.
whew.... that's a load off. |

To answer the original question, yes, it can. But we'll have to figure out how to activate the "request validation" method so you can submit the original ... I won't be getting to that until after work. |

I am not for sure on this, but I think that was before they required an original. Could be wrong. Can't honestly see any reason why it wasn't DQ'd if an original was indeed submitted. |

And I second that! the kidding I mean... You whiner!
In hebrew we would call your question a kit-bag question.
I don't know if this term exists in other languages, so I will explain: Since everyone has to do an army service, everyone is familliar with the huge military kit-bag and everyone knows that if you are not specifically told to take it with you, you avoiddoing so at any cost!
but there's always one goody-two-shoe in the platoon who has to ask: "so do I take the kit-bag with me or not?" |

For what it's worth, this has NOTHING to do with averages, scores, etc.
It has to do with the fact that I know that it isn't legal (as of yesterday) and don't like things on my conscience - just a newbie goof.

There was no DQ request at the time of the challenge, so no original was ever requested -- he's just bringing the violation to our attention now. I want to look at the original before DQ'ing the image, just like we would if it was a current challenge. |

Not wanting to offend of course. I just feel this was an honest mistake after all. Not an intentional law breaking. And I don't see much relevance to DQ it now.

Sorry for having implied you were trying to disqualify a low scorer.
If anyone has any concerns about pictures that need to be disqualified a year later, I think the best way to address it is to send a PM to one of the SC members.

Unless we are going to go back and DQ every picture from every challenge, I think it is a waste of time now to worry about entires that weren't hugely impactful to the overall results. Just my two-cents-worth. I will return to my quiet corner now. lol |

Sure Brad, but the rule is after 1 year, it's like pool, and when you scratch, you lose another high scoring image as well
;)

It never hit me until I was processing some of my old shots from Costa Rica to include in my portfolio, relating to a thread yesterday.

That's true, and whether the image stands or falls has no real impact on the challenge or the photographer. Still, any chance to DQ BradP makes my mouse finger itch. ;-) |

No problem - makes no difference to me really. If the admins say it's OK to leave in, that's fine too. Just hate possessing knowledge of something like this and just keeping quiet about it. |

So why not just tell us that you want us to have another look at those photos?
They are awsome. Well, most of then anyway. I'd love to go through them any time, with or without the DQ thingy. |

That's too sincere of a reaction to my joke. It wasn't a jab at your motives ;) |

Well it should have been. Maybe a public (no pubic) caning would be in order huh?
Wonder how long I can keep a straight face here.

That long.

Maybe now would be an opportune time to change batteries and check the date on your camera(s). I'm pretty sure mine are not yet adjusted for Daylight Saving Time ... : ( |

I changed my date info for that very reason this morning.
