If I have as scene that is mostly lit quite nicely, but there is a small very dark area whose detail is essential to the shot, where should I meter on the scene? EG: Rocky wooded area where the woods are lit nicely but I wanna get some detail inside a cave. I'm shooting raw files so stacking exposures is not a problem but I have limited card resources so I'd like to get the exposure right in the minimum number of takes so I can get the most shots on the card...

Take two exposures... one metered for the woods and one metered for the cave.
