I just got back from the Indian Festival in Canton, Ga today. I justy wanted to share my 4 favorites thaqt I took from today. I hope you enjoy the colors. They come out and dance all day wish I could have stuck around longer but it is hot. If anyone else has Indian photos share them here or post your thoughts on these.

hey, I went to an Indian Festival here at Stanford yesterday, called POW WOW, but they didn't allow taking any pictures in the arena ( where the actual dance was happening), but we got some other pics of people dressed up around the arena.. I will post them once I get a chance to process :) |

They didn't let you take pictures? That sux. I checked the website before we went and it said make sure to remember your cameras. That is weird.

some 'bloods', or indians as the traditional term is used, when they dance ask not to have pix taken for concentration. When flash is used, sometimes it distracts them from the dance. Not all dancers are this way, alot of traditionalists are however.
Don't ya know, its a way to imprison the soul dude.

cool pics Rex, I especially like #4. The others are great, but the colors kinda throw me off. It's a personal preferance thing here, I just like to see Indians in more traditional colorations... the flourescent colors are just too bright to me. |

I don't really care for the flourescent colors either.

Rex..... very interesting powwow pics. The modern fancy dancers, and also some hoop dancers that I have observed have the brightest and most modern colour adornment - which is part of a dancer's intrepretive creative perogative. Dance is very important to the American Native culture and they have many dance styles within a tribe and many styles that are intertribal. The fancy dance - seems to be a style that can be seen at most powwows. A tribe's traditional styles of dance, certianly on some reservations is restricted or often not open to the public have more muted colour. |

Not to grip but its not polite to call them indians. They are "native indians" and its called a POW WOW.
Excellent photos BTW.

It was an Indian Festival/Pow Wow. And the technical term is "Native Americans". ;-)
