My monitor has been calibrated to 6500K, for non-raw shooting with the 20D do I set the camera to this as well, then do a white balance?

Is there any advantage to this?

Short answer: "No"

Setting the cam to 6500 IS a white-balance setting, basically. You do a custom white-balance setting if you don't KNOW the temperature of the light. The goal is to render colors neutrally.

Monitor setting is independent of that; goal is to reproduce faithfully on the screen the "reality" that others will see, a sketchy business at best. Your monitor color temperature is an approximation anyway, better to calibrate to standardized targets.

The temperature settings on the monitor and camera are for color balancing against the available light to render the image as close to true color as possible. The difference is the temperature setting of the camera adjusts for the available light on the subject of the image while the temperature setting on the monitor adjusts for the available light of the room it is in.

They will only be the same if the light on the subject and the light in the room are the same.
