I think I came up with a nifty idea for prizes....
Coupons for DPC prints!
Essentially,winners would receive a coupon that covers the DPCPrints fee (as the artist fee is variable - and also prevents user from having $80 print and buying their own... ;)
1st = equivalent fee for a 20x or less
2nd = equivalent fee for an 8x10 or less
3rd = equivalent fee for a 5x7 or less
and maybe $1 off for anyone who places in the top 10.
It would also help promote DPC prints. I think people would buy more prints after they buy their first one... (drug dealer mentality).

I like that idea.
I was reading on another thread about dpc caps, mugs and other junk like that, those things would be good prizes I think for ribbon winners as well.
I would love to win a print or something from dpc!! |

Prizes have been discussed here and the poll taken showed that the popular vote was for no prizes. Besides, prizes would encourage people to cheat, and lord knows we have enough of that now over a virtual ribbon. |

HAHAHAHA.....I don't want prizes....If you want prizes then go somewhere else. I am not trying to be mean, stay here and participate but there are already plenty of sites that gives prizes and I think doing so here would make people want to cheat as hbunch has already said

Actually, the idea did not so much stem from prizes but that I just ordered my first print today.
My thought was if such coupons might increase the number of users who purchase prints. That was the line of reasoning. |

i thought a prize like that would be great for buyers and sellers. Seems weird that people would vote against prizes. Who cares if people cheat. if they do, they get DQ'ed and we move up. Set higher rules for cheaters. But it would still be nice for atleast once a month.

Besides creating additional work for other people (catching more cheaters), there's an enormous amount of legal liability and paperwork once you start offering prizes.
Think of the arguments which rage over controversial DQ's now, and imagine there's a $900 camera on the line ... |

no one was mentioning $900 prizes. Just dpc prints...
*shrug*
the idea was really to encourage activity at the dpcprints |

I think this would be a great idea... maybe even just do it for member challenges.
I do not think it would really effect cheating...
1st price is $11-14
2nd is $2.35
3rd is $.78
You may even require us to still pay for shipping if we want this free print. |

That's if it's a credit for your own prints, not a flat amount to buy someone else's ... you already get your own at base price.
On the legal issue, I think the hassle is the same whether the prize is $8 or $800 -- why go through all that to offer an $8 prize? And who's sponsoring those prizes? |

i have an idea i would like to put out there ....what if the t-shirt thing comes through...or any kind of dp merchandise....charge a bit more than you would normally...every month the blue ribbon winner with the highest average vote gets to take a set aside sum from dpmerchandise sales and have a donation made in their name from dpchallenge to their favorite charity....a win win win situation |
