I just visited a site for Digi Pix.

The neat thing they did was to make their white to black gradience bar active for the back ground of the submission.

To me this is a great tool especially when critiqueing B&W photos. When looking for those pure blacks and pure whites, and all the other mid-tones, the gradience bar could be active in preview mode giving each pix that extra benefit of the critique.
