first I want to introduce myself here, this is my first post, I've also just entered my first challenge "late night". Not doing so well, but hey.
I've been watching the challenges for a while but was too intimidated to enter one. You all are just so good! But I figured I wouldn't get any better just watchin.
Anyway, can anyone tell me (or point me to an existing thread) a good way to keep my computer files organized. I don't use the computer too much outside of my photo needs since I've only recently begun shooting digital.
Right now I keep all my images in one folder and sort them by subject, but sometimes I want to keep them organized by uses, like photos that would make good prints, photos for online viewing, etc. I just don't know how to find stuff easily once I've filed it. anyone?
looking forward to giving you all some competition. :)

One easy way is to simply create folders for each month and file them that way as your master files then make sub folders for any other purpose.
This is just one way of many but I find it simple and effective. |

Hi! Welcome Brian! I have a folder with subfolders for each download I do. It's kinds my negative folder where I keep all the original picture. Then I have folder for all the pictures that had some editing... And subfolders for Workshop, Final edit, outtakes... With subfolders again for subject, events... I have like 50 subfolders... Keep in mind, you'll be working with your folders, find a pattern that makes sense to you! |

grandmarginal, keegbow, thanks. That's pretty much what I am doing now, but it just doesn't seem efficient enough. Thanks though.
Does anyone know of a program maybe, like a database for pictures or something like that?

ThumbsPlus v. 7 is excellent and very flexible. I highly recommend it after having tried just about everything else!
