Terrible. Any ideas why, from users or people knowledgeable? All the reviews I read said the quality rivals photo labs. But my prints are washed out, and the colors are off.

Ink and print head is installed correctly. I aligned the print head and performed a "cleaning." Still no luck.

Thoughts?

I would guess it's most likely the paper you are using (considering the printer is new). I have a Canon i850 and have noticed drastic differences when using the various papers available.

Hm. Well, I guess it saw this topic I'd posted and decided Canon would be ticked at the bad PR, so it cleaned up its act. The colors still aren't exactly precise from screen to print, but that's probably the way my computer translates the job, and might just be a problem of finding the right profile. I'm very impressed now - I can't make out dots at an extremely close range, and there are no signature inkjet lines.

But for a a good four or five prints there, it scared me mightily. The pictures really did look godawful.
