Anyone else like the season suggestion? 2 weeks to shoot, 2 weeks to vote... You have all the seasons covered... Christmas is fun and special because it's only once a year, if it was Christmas everyday, we'd all get tired of it... Have a poll!

Would you like to have Free Study challenge:

a) Every month
b) Every season
c) Twice a year

You might also consider a limited shooting period(1 week)and keep the challenge date/week staggered to remove some advantages.

That's if you feel the need to keep some pressure on the event.

At the very least, run Free Studies more frequently.

Free Studies are a chance to show your best work. Since most people think in terms and produce work that falls outside the bounds of most studies, it's no accident that the best work shows up in free studies. Not only are they my favorite challenges to enter, they are my favorite challenges to vote in.

I love the idea of having back to back monthly free studies. Each person has a chance to show their best shot of the month. And we all get a chance to see it. Limiting the challenge to those who have made at least half or three quarters as many comments as they've recieved seems like a clever idea. If people know in advance that this is the deal and will be for some time, I think it has a chance of encouraging people to comment more freely as a matter of habit.

I do like technique-based challenges, but my major reason for wanting a free-study-type place to put photos wouldn't be resolved by having more of them. I think part of the reason for the many pics that don't fit the challenge theme is that people also take pictures of their lives and surroundings without any challenge in mind and one of those pics might be so good they really want to submit it somewhere, anywhere. This would still be a problem with the technical challenges. If you're kind of new (like me) and inexperienced so not many good pictures in your profile yet (like me) you don't get many views so just putting something in the profile is kind of unsatisfying. That having been said, I also agree that having free-study challenges all the time kind of "cheapens" them. I vote for some kind of compromise.
