My computer has been freezing and restarting at will alot recently.
Last night after it froze, I went to reboot it and it said windows couldnt load, I was missing a Critical File.. It said to get the XP Disk and run a repair.
That didnt work though, it would just freeze up again..
But as I kept trying to reboot, I noticed that it was showing I had different amounts of ram each time.
So I pulled a stick out, and Windows loaded up?
CAn A bad stick of memory cause this many problems?
Or did I just get lucky..
It froze again today, so I am running Some Norton Utilities to see if that helps.. |

| Bad memory can cause those problems and even more bizarre ones. |

You might have some unecessary program(s) running in the background. Get rid of them at the start-up.
Maybe a Windows Update from MS site can restore something that's been deleted by accident.
A long time back (I can't remember exactly, however) I had some kind of jam up with external hardware that sucked memory from the system or something.

I had similar experiences last summer.
I did an in depth windows memory diagnostic test on my pc, and low and behold, one of my sticks was bad.
Your manufacture can do the same thing via your broadband, not sure about dial up.
as far as the rebooting, that sound like a heat problem. I too had that problem and installed an extra eshaust fan in my tower.
One more thing. On Nortons website, they have a tool that can diagnose your computer to see if you have any viruses above and beyond your personal Norton anti-virus.
