I'm pretty sure Brad's getting a Canon 20D. He's just allowing us a few last chances to ribbon. How sporting! |

Totally braindead when I wrote this... must have been that I had to put in a full 8 hours in at work (working) yesterday...I'm a little disoriented.

Shannon, I keep seeing your little tasseled hat figure and thinking "konodor," before I do a double-take and see that it's you. Those visuals are powerful!

I hope Mr. P. stays with an Olympus...adds to his mystique. They do have some advantages over other manufacturers, but certainly aren't as popular (especially on here). That ultrasonic wave filter is a nice feature...and the 4:3 system with the digital-specific lenses also looks quite cool.

BradP's Olympus doesn't have the ultrasonic....

I'd like to add to the noise part of the discussion earlier in the thread. I think many people on this site critique noise way too harshly. When I first got my camera, I wasn't good enough to control when and where to let noise be a part of the image. I was afraid of it, and did whatever possible to eliminate it. Because of DP Challenge, I have learned to appreciate noise, and like it with certain images way more than I would if the image was cleaned up with neat image. Noise can be a very good element to the photo. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of voters see noise and lower their vote. I have seen some stunning photos that were taken with high ISO's and I wouldn't want to see those images get damaged with neatimage. My 2 cents.

LOL
Actually....this - or - this - or even - this is probably where I will be heading. (converting to the dark side...)
(That is unless Canon wants to make sure I don't go there)
Not ready to retire the old girl just yet. Still have a Neener Neener Neener (or two) to pull off with it up against the best here.
Need to balance out the Blue, Red & Yellow colors on my profile page anyway - not enough Red ones - need symmetry - yeah that's it - need symmetry.

Add four browns. VERY symmetrical. |

You could stay with the Olympus with the E1 or the E300 EVOLT, both of which seem pretty durn cool. Granted, they may not be the most superest-duperest cameras available, but still, they have not nice features that demand attention.

Hey Scalvert, I almost suggested a "Golf" challenge and I think I am going to do that... ;)
See upcoming challenge submission idea. |

I honestly considered the Olympus E-1, as my neighbor has one and would make for a minimal learning curve coming from the E-10.
The E-1 still isn't "there". Power-up to first shot is slow, and is lacking in the read/write buffer area. The 4/3rds system may be a good thing, but is slow to make it mainstream yet, and Olympus is lagging behind in the way of lenses still.
I did a side by side ISO800 comparison also, and the E-1 is still a bit too noisy for me, if looking to upgrade.
I was so hoping to see Nikon come out with something between the present D70/D70s and the D2X, as there is a spot there that needs filling to go up against the 20D. |

Brad,
I think the Nikon does a pretty good job in regards to noise. As I was submitting my Rock, Paper, Scissors entry I noticed that the ISO was set to 1600!
I don't think the noise is overly noticeable and I didn't do anything to remove noise in the post processing. This may not be the best example, and I've got quite a few things to learn about my camera and photography. Just thought you might like to see a Nikon example at high ISO.

Just to remind everyone...
If he must be stopped with an E10 what is going to happen with a 20D (or similar)

"How would you beat BradP?"
"With Canon's 20D with a 1200mm lens"
"Would that work?"
"Sure...just use it on him while he is sleeping!"
Kind of a spin from the movie "A Knight's Tale"...line
"How would you beat him?"
"With a big stick....while he slept. On a horse...he's unbeatable!"
In this case....

Maybe I should sleep with one eye open now?
Someone wants to clobber me with their 20D and Canon's 1200mm, I would be honored.
Beats the heck out of a Mavica being tossed at me! (pun intended)

You forgot the ability to single handedly destroy all of the AA batteries in the world in the course of a 20 minute shoot.
No, I don't have the battery grip |

I think you can get an AC adapter, but your house lights may dim when you shoot. ;-) |

I've got that, and I've also got a belt-mounted lithium ion battery pack that is miraculous and works through the same plug. The cables are a bit aggravating, but I can easily get 300+ shots out of it. It was especially nice that it was only around $35 |

Lithium battery packs work much better than AA alkalines or even NiMh |
