This was my first challenge entry. I'm please with the results as I also thought it was just an average photo, and I thank everyone who took the time to comment. Your comments were very helpful. I look forward to future challenges, and improving my photography skills from the great people who make up this community.
For those wondering, I went with 8 as the title to take the minimalism challenge to the nth degree :) 8 is the number for a center fielder for scoring purposes, not the score I was hoping to receive. ;)

I'm trying to get myself ready to shoot at a couple of ballparks this season. Can I ask about where you were sitting, say in relation to the 1st base dugout? And am I correct to assume that shot was at full zoom on your 80-400?
Aren't you supposed to be a Tigers fan? LOL

I am a Tigers fan, but they played in MN the week before I was there on business. :(
I was sitting 13 rows back about half way between first and the right field wall. The focal length was only 116mm, but I wish I had big bucks to afford a much faster lens as most of the action shots were blurred. The other option would be to play the game outside during the day (so I can play hookie from work) like it was meant to be!
