I took these the other day with my Sigma 105mm Macro. First time really taking insects so I did quite get everything correct. I used Autofocus when I should have been using Manual. This would have prevented the fuzzyness on the outside of the image.

Nice work Hiral,

There is a butterfly house not far fom where I live in Blenheim Palace, I've been meaning to go out and shoot (also with a Sigma 105).

I like the 6th & 7th shots best, the selective desat works very well, but the green and orange in the final image is quite stunning. Do you think a butterfly is best shot from the front or from behind as in the last image?

I don't think Manual focus would have helped you there. There's just such a shallow dof with macro lenses that unless you're at F/22 or 32 it's tough to get everything sharp and even then it's sometimes impossible.

I have the same lens and while using it last week I tried manual too with no tripod unfortunately, and kept rocking back and forth from in focus to blurry. But that didn't help my dof.

Some nice pics by the way. It's a fun lens.

I tried a couple from the front and the images are hard to capture as you have to have the correct angle and the cooperation of the butterfly with its wings open but I think any time you get the back open with a good background you can get some very nice shots. There colors are just so stunning. I wish I had more time I would have waited for different types.
