I know what shutter speed is, I know what apeture is however iam confused about a few things I have a manual lens its my fastest and my personal favorite 100mm nikkor series E 2.4 however the only way it works is if i can get the apeture and shutter speed correct i know there has to be a secret otherwise people would have waisted tons of film. Ever time i got to take a portrait of someone i have to look really stupid taking test pictures trying to find out the right setting and to find out its still aint right please help me . Sometiems i put the camera in auto with a differnt lens to find out the metering but real professional dont have to do that any tips thanks!

My method is to use the exposure meter that is built into the camera.
Option 2 is a light meter seperate from the camera.
Option 3 is the Sunny 16 rule. //www.camerareview.com/templates/sunny16.cfm
