I have been saving my photos in jpeg format only. Since I thought, as long as I am not making any editting, and saving again, they do not loose quality.
However, one of my friend told me that the jpeg photos loose quality, whenever the jpeg files are opened and closed again.(even if no editting is made!).
Please help me tell, whether this is true?

it's only true that you lose quality if you save the image. But yes, saving images as jpeg always reduces their quality.

Just opening and closing will not reduce quality as the file is not rewritten when closed. (unless of course the software you use has the option to save on closing then it would be a problem)
