May be made by Samsung. Yesterday my wife and I were out on our little sailboat in strong winds. Nothing we hadn't done before and normally well within our capabilities. To make a long story short, we capsized the boat, spent about 10 minutes in 54 degree water and about 2 hours sitting on top of the now turtled boat with its daggerboard and rudder stabbing the sky like mother and baby Orcas' dorsels. We were ultimately rescued by the Sheriff's Department. Nobody hurt. No damage to the boat. Nobody arrested. No "real" drama, but a few anxious moments.
But the hero of the story second only to our rescuers, was my wife's Samsung mobile phone. It was completely submerged while we were in the water and didn't work when we climbed onto the overturned boat. But when we got home, we dried it out, put in a newly charged battery, and it fired up just like new. Didn't lose a byte of data. No phone book entries lost. What a phone! |

The only time I could not bring my sail boat back up, was when the mast got stuck on the bottom of the river as the tide was going out of the river.
This problem was solved 8 hours later when the tide came back...
Glad to here you are both safe and sound, but I am confused as to why you could not re-right the boat...

Glad to hear you're both OK! That's a great 'phone story. I have a story like that myself, but not nearly as dramatic as yours. I lost my Nokia 6100 series phone and a year later found it... laying face down in the back yard near the garden. It had obviously been run over repeatedly with the lawn tractor, and was smashed into the earth level with the ground.
I took it apart, cleaned out all the mud with distilled water, dried it out, charged the battery and away it went. The display was acting flaky and I eventually replaced it with the display from a scrapped phone that someone at work had. I used the phone for two more years.

The boat (Vanguard Nomad) weighs more than 600 pounds and together our svelt physiques are not heavy enough to right it. The mast is more than 25 feet and it carries about 175 sq ft of sail which contributes to the dificulty. We were in 170 feet of water so the mast was straight down. We've been sailing for 30 years and this wasn't a technique thing, it was physics. Think about the physics of mass and the resistence of the sail area in the water to rotating the boat around its axis.
Note regarding the Nomad: It is blazing fast, possibly the fastest monohull of its size. It also has an unusual 180 sq ft asymmetric spinnaker. The boat's fantastic in light air, which we have a lot of, and only a little twitchy as the wind kicks up.
Didn't have a camera on board, except the one in the cell phone. So no pics and no camera loss!
Anyway, as I said, no real drama.

Glad to hear everything turned up ok.
I used to use a Nokia with ATT's Go-Phone service. I don't remember the model number. It survived dropping from my belt while I was unloading a railcar with a 5 ton forklift. Rolled right over the top of it with full load (almost 12 tons total weight) and all it did was crack the display. I continued to use it for several more months. It wouldn't hold a charge as well as before, and the reception wasn't as good -- but I was suprised it still worked!

Glad to hear no one was hurt.. but my boyfriends phone has to take the blue ribbon for the toughest mobile in the world. He carrys it and shows it to everyone, its his "war story". He has ran over it with his jeep. He has left it outside all night ontop of his jeep in below freezing temps with freezing rain. I called him on it once while he was on a ladder cleaning 2nd story windows and while answering it he dropped it on the concrete. And just last week he waded in the water to get a fish in a net and it was in his pocket. He has a piece of tape holding the battery on. hahahaha its pitiful. He qualifys for a free one in 2 months so he is hoping that it will hang in there till then :)

Thank the flash memory for that....
I've got one of those little flash thumb drives. Imagine my horror when I discover my mom washed my laundry including my thumb drive.
Well, it not only survived the wash...but also the dryer. And on two occasions....

| If you or your wife don't work for Samsung, then this is a nice story and you might want to send it to their customer service dept for a possible PR-related pitch. Who knows, you and the wife, as well as the incident, might be featured in a real-life styly commercial for Samsung. The perks might be nice (Samsung camera, phones, etc). Good luck. |
