Who wants number 600?

What image needs more input?
04/28/2005 12:55:47 PM · #2
You could always snag one off the Critique Club page...Over 500 people there waiting for good crits.

Don't you have to be a Critique Club member to view that page, or is there a way for non-cc/members to do it?

How do we do that?

Last I knew it was open to everyone...just go up to the top in 'community' and then to 'critique club'. There will be a button that says "give me an image to critique". I've been a member for so long, that things might have changed though. Forgive me if I'm wrong.
PS...someone let me know if you can do it.

Sorry, You must be a member of DPC's Critique Club to access this page.

If you're interested in joining, please send an email to konador@blueyonder.co.uk or a private message.

I can't get in...

I think you will find that you have to be a member of the critique club first...

Send an email to Konador and he'll add anyone interested to the list. Once he's done that then you'll have access.

Ok, thanks. I say just flood Ben's in-box with emails of interest in joining the Crit Club.
I've been working on these things for the last week or so and despite the fact that I've done like 50...the number keeps going up. I think I'm the only one doing them.
I need help!
552 to go. *sigh*

Just sent Ben an email.
If it's up to a vote, maybe I'll have better luck than I did getting into SC.

(Guess they didn't need any lunatics this time around huh? - LOL)

I think basically anyone interested can join the CC - the 'membership' in order to screen members to ensure that they can leave a helpful comment rather than a 'useless' or unhelpful one. I was doing it avidly for awhile, but when the piles just keep getting bigger and bigger (as someone mentioned, over 500 waiting to be critiqued now) it can get discouraging.. yikes!

Alright you've shamed me... I'll get back to CC work. I stopped because it seemed clear the requesters were not readign the crits, and they took me like half an hour or more apiece. Even when I sent out e-mail notices of crit, I rarely saw a checkmark in any reasonable timeframe. But that's a personal problem.

I find this interesting. About two weeks ago I started this thread.

Indepth Critique on challenge entries - questions

Quote pulled from thread just mentioned.
Originally posted by hbunch7187:

If it is still working like it used to, the photos waiting for crits are there for one week after the actual voting ends. So photos from old challenges are not still on the list. Voting ends, results are posted, those photos go into list of photos waiting to be critiqued, old challenge photos tossed out of the list waiting for crits. So if you've been waiting more than a week, I'd say you were not getting one. There is no guarantee that you'll get one, but you increase your chances by giving critiques and helping to reduce the number of crits waiting in line. :)
That's how it was, It may have changed since I was on it last though.

If the above information is correct, then the number of people marking the 'Indepth Critique' checkbox on challenge entries is extremely high! Yikes!

Don't forget to join the CC club you can also pm Manic

I was doing them but for some reason people aren't marking them helpful?

I think it's more of a case they probably didn't know.
There is no vessel in place to notify someone if a critique was done (unless it's changed) and only way someone would know if a comment or critique has been made to any of their images is to select the Comments Received on their profile page.

IMO the concept of the Critique Club is broken. I myself have only checked the "Request a Critique" box once, and like many others have not heard back. I'm sure it's sitting in the que and one day will be reviewed. Funny thing is that I've forgotten which photo it was, although I could go back and figure it out. Not a gripe, just sharing an experience that I'm sure is common to many.

During the Cherry Blossom gtg a few weeks ago I made the suggestion to either Drew or Langdon (I forget which god now) that there should be a small charge for professional critiques given on DPC. Or maybe a paid membership should include two or three free critiques within a year, then afterwards a nominal charge should apply.

Another idea would be to limit the number of challenge entries that are eligible to be critiqued by randomly generating the "Request a Critique" checkbox on a limited number of photos. Those usernames that have received critiques within a defined period wouldn't be eligible again for awhile. And finally, another idea would be to let pending requests expire, say, within a month of the request. If you haven't heard back by then, don't expect to.

As it is now, though, the members who are generous enough to participate in the Critique Club are buried with requests. Any other ideas?

so whats the etiquette on comments here, I keep seeing everyone asking if they need critque or comments are they just being polite or is there a reason to have lots of comments on your photos?

I stand at:
Made: 299
Helpful: 221
Received: 68

Of course I don't have very many pictures to comment on since I only try and submit what I think will do well...and those have bombed anyway. lol

I do e-mail them once I am done through their profile and infrom them that I left an in depth critique for them on their image and leave a link.

Raymond (nova) to answer your question. It is my knowledge that when a new challenge starts it kicks the old photos out of the que. If you understand what I mean. To explain if people for instance check their Minimalism entry for a critique it doesn't go into the que until voting has ended. Once voting ends the previous ones in there for say the Rock,Paper,Scissors Challenge are pushed out.

I think you are off to a pretty good start with ideas. 2 or 3 in-depth per year seems a bit low, but I'm not sure what the actual numbers of how many photos receive in-depth critiques anymore. The quote that glad2badad included from hbunch7187 is correct though - the only photos available for review by the CC are from the challenges that are on the front page. I have nothing official to support this - maybe they don't include the 24-hour challenges for critiques.. I don't know. But for sure once it's been over a week, they are removed from the queue and new ones are placed in (which explains why sometimes the batch will drop from 500 to 300 pending, when a popular challenge has been ousted from the front page by the newer, less popular one).
