Oooh.. I'm envious. Good taste! When I moved earlier this month, I'd planned to ditch the wallpaper in my bedroom and paint it a nice, deep red accented with light gold brush strokes and cream trim, but I ended up keeping what I had. The house is very old, with high ceilings, and my cream & gold bedroom furniture and draperies look too pretty with the old-fashioned paper.
We did almost buy a house with a bright red kitchen ceiling, though. It was warm and cozy.. I love red. We considered doing the dining room in red, but ultimately decided that cream and white was a better scheme for the carpet.
Congratulations on your new home! |

I love sponge painting. Not only does it look fantastic, you can cover wall flaws that are beyond putty quite nicely with some creative sponging (pattern or no). |

I'm going to have to go against the grain here and say I really don't like the sponge technique. I'd personally rather go with some different sized stripes or something.
I'm kinda surprised by how many of my friends have reacted negatively towards me getting a home of my own..(they're renters for the most part or new home owners). It's like everyone thinks I'm a tool...when, wouldn't the tool be the people who keep renting when they have the means to buy? Just a thought.. |

this happened to some degree with me ... i think people(generally speaking) are naturally negative about stuff if they don't know all the facts. for people who don't own homes, perhaps they aren't aware of the benefits and think you're just biting off more than you can chew.

In my experience, there is nothing better you can do for your financial security to BUY a house as early in adulthood as possible. I paid my landlord's mortgage (rent) for over ten years and for a few hundred extra bucks a month, I would've built up over $150k in equity if I was buying. :(
No question about it, it was a good move Lori.

Yea, exactly. Except I've already told them my mortgage (and bills) amount to equal or less than what I'm paying in rent.
One friend said "Congrats! Bring on the mortgage!" like I'm an idiot. I've spent months looking for a place and didn't exactly jump into it on my own. lol...it seems that being a young blonde is a stigma even my friends latch onto. I thought people would've known me better than that by now! |
