I would really enjoy seeing some of the DPC communitys attempts at a "great shot" that more or less regardless of efforts turned out to be just another photo resembling a point and shoot picture taken with a lesser camera than what was used.

Could you turn that thought into two sentences, please?

He would like to see shots that were meant to be great but just ended up looking like poo... basically. Just look at my portfolio :P

Thanks, I know the feeling...

You can do that with any camera. The assumption that anything that didn't turn out properly from an SLR looks like one from a P & S is a false one.

what makes a camera a point n shoot? I have a dimage Z1 and i dont consider it either a dSLR or a point n shoot because it doesnt have all the gadgets of slr but it has more settings than a basic PnS.i recently upgraded from a mustek g smart mini 2(P.O.S.!!) so which "catagory" does my minolta Dimage Z1 fall into?

To me there are two general categories however in the P & S category there are several levels going from the ones with only auto mode to ones that have pretty much all the options of a camera with interchangable lenses.

So, in general, the Z1 is a P & S but at the higher end of the range.

I'd say it's a "prosumer camera", like for example the Sony DSC-F828.
