Maybe the folks at the college just don't appreciate a cool beer drinking dog?

She hears for me. Smoke alarms is the main reason I got her; I'm living alone for the first time in my life and felt vulnerable. She tells me when people knock at the door, she tells me when the timer on the stove goes off, she hears the alarm clock, she generally makes me aware of approaching people out of my direct sight, and (most importantly) she keeps me up to date on the backyard squirrels' comings and goings.

Cool. What kind of dog is she?
I don't really need to have mine with me, but he cries when I leave him behind. He is a Bichon that I found in the swamp about 5 years ago.

An autistic friend of mine has a "Social Signal Dog" (SSigDOG); there are a few links on xyr webpage (//www.jimsinclair.org/) about the history of SSigDOGS and what they do. :-)
Now back to our regularly-scheduled forum thread already in progress...

Nabisco, why did you even post this thread, did you think you would get sympathy. Its like your looking for an argument.
Let me get this straight, you took your dog, your pickup, and beer to hang your art. That is an oxymoron if I have ever heard one. You brought your stereotypical conservative redneck items with you to perform a stereotypical liberal hippie job. Its just funny to me that you thought this would be acceptable. Who cares if you have drank with president on campus, that doesnt warrant drinking with college students. We had this problem a few years ago at my college. His name was Larry Eustacy, head coach for Iowa State basketball (might have seen it on ESPN or CNN) he got fired for drinking with Kansas students at an away game and had civil suites brought up on him, and it took till this season for another school to pick him up.
As for bringing your dog, its common sense. Marble floors and dogs dont mix. You should already have known about the floors if you scouted out the gallery beforehand like a good little artist should.

and I thought Iowa had stupid hicks. |
Marble floors and dogs? Talk about morons. How the F is a 11lbs Bichon going to hurt a mable floor? And (edited out) would have read the whole thread you would have seen that I wasn't drinking with the students.

Expression through conformity - now there's a debatable oxymoron.
Mr Battilana, I respect your actions. Maybe it's because I too have opted out of the constraints of society, or maybe it's because I live in a place that's not got lost in political correctness and conformity, but I see nothing wrong with the idea of your dog being in attendance (here it's normal for people to bring their dog's into the office with them on a daily basis), and the idea of a beer for those helping out in the set-up is a nice friendly gesture.
How people can take this as being such an issue is laughable, please people open your eyes, there is nothing wrong with this situation and do you really want to live in such a society that you are promoting with the applicaion of such strict conditions?

But don't let him near your marble floors! ;-)

hey nabisco, take a high school chemistry class, they teach you about the hardness of objects (ie diamonds and glass) It isnt the weight of the object, it is the hardness of his claws and the softness of the wax and enamel on the marble floor. It can get expensive to refinish. Same thing goes with hardwood floors.
P.S. Iowa is known for makin corn and sending our babies off to war... alabama and arkansas are know for their hicks (no offense to anyone else who lives in those states)
And there is a problem with this colda, he walked out of a show due to a dog and a good brew. And if you want to talk about social conformity take a look at some of nabiscos previous comments on threads like copyright

No, he walked out because we was compromised beyond his personal level of tolerance.

he is showing the same intollerence as the security officer. Had he just taken the beer and dog back to the car, and not the prints, problem solved. Then he could have come on here and gripped all day about the security guard all night and I would have agreed with him, still would have made cracks about being a hick, but thats who I am, the synical optimist.
Its just cutting off his nose to spite his face.
See us Americans (me included) have a problem with stubbornness and all sides, its our way or the highway. Thats why we are having so much troubles abroad.

little off subject, but I really like you "the real world" colection on your site, colda. They have a very winnogrand feel to them with from the hip shots with lots of juxtapositions and tilted lens. Have a nice feel to them.

Hey Nathan, you live in Wisconsin, home of the cheeseheads and U of Wisconsin (one of the largest party schools in the nation, great holloween party. Definately recommend going some time). Drinking is lightyears ahead of the rest of the country, so drinking while working is more exceptable, it is here, but not in the professional manner as setting up for a gallery. We do take cases of beer into the darkroom, hope to someday get pony keg in next to the print dryer.
But would you walk away from potentially several thousand dollar job, because a college student with a badge tells you to put your beer and dog in the truck.

Ahh, I'm just an Englishman living in Switzerland, I've never been to the states and am unqualified to pass judgement on attitudes of the people (although in reality I frequently do in jest), unless of course I'm expected to base my opinions on the propaganda from the press.

Did you move to Switzerland because you're neutral, or are you neutral because you're in Switzerland? :)

I have no idea whatsoever why I'm here to be honest, never been called neutral before, as as for Switzerland I'd use the word 'opportunistic' rather than 'neutral'. :)

That's a funny thread for my to read. And I must say is someway beyond my comprehention.
Back home in Romania drinks are almost a must in an exhibit(even if you hold it in a campus). Adding the fact that the beer was for the helpers than I might say that nobody will help you unless you treat them some drinks. Or maybe we drink too much back home...
As for the dog issue...what issue? It's a family member so who cares?
I can not judge the situation but I certainly wonder if I would like to live there!
