Hello everyone. I have a lot of interest in keeping track of my voting pattern and am currently trying to get my overall average closer to 5.5. What would really help is if the main voting page of any given challenge (the one that shows up when you click on Challenges->Cast Votes->challenge) shows your instant, calculated average vote cast, perhaps in the Stats section:

Rate Submissions for the Current Challenge:
Challenge: Rock, Paper, Scissors (04/13/2005 - 04/19/2005)
Rules: Basic Editing (Updated 1/5/05)
Submissions: 248
Voting Deadline: 04/26/2005
Details: Your photograph must contain one or more of these items.

Stats:
You have rated 246 of 248 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 40 images (20%) in this challenge.
Your average vote for this challenge is 6.2423

(etc)

Any thoughts? Like? Dislike?

It's a cool idea - also it would give you an idea on how you preceived the photos of the challege were as a whole!

Yes, that would also be a nice benefit, hadn't thought about that. :-)

Great idea! I think it would be really interesting to know that.

Another thought would be to also show your average vote in the Challenge Results page.

Why? What is the point? The fact that you take the time to vote should be enough and now you want to graph your own performance? Why??

Graph? Not sure what you are referring to.

I could count the number of photos that I've given 10's, 9's, etc, and do the math myself, but as I stated in my initial comment, it would be nice to see if I'm actually improving on my voting (getting closer to a goal of 5.5 avg vote cast) without having to resort to doing the math manually.

Why would that represent an "improvement" in your voting?

It would be a personal improvement, not an improvement in general, or an improvement for anyone else.

I am making an effort to score each challenge a bit higher, for personal reasons. I feel I don't give high enough scores in respect to what others here at DPC currently feel is an 'average' score.

I felt this change, if only implemented in the main voting page, would be a relatively minor and/or easily implemented modification from a programming perspective. Which is why I suggested it, but if not, no harm done. Anyone else could use this extra bit of statistic in whichever way they choose.

I see : )

It just sounded like 5.5 was some sort of idealized "target" you were aiming for ... if you just mean to adjust your voting scale slightly upwards I think you should carry on immediately.

Which is what I've been doing of late, but to see that visual confirmation of what I've voted in a given challenge, it would be nice. Just a suggestion, that's all. :-)

You can check your profile and see if your overall average has gone up since the previous challenge.

Let's forget about my personal goals.

How about implementing this feature on grounds that it could be viewed as a rather basic statistic. Just a suggestion.

I like the suggestion as well. I am halfway through voting on the Minimalism challenge and wondering what my average score given for this challenge is - I'm guessing 4. :(

Why do people put down these type of suggestions or ask "Why would you want that?" - obviously they had a reason for wanting the feature. If you don't see any value in it, igonore it if it's implemented - no harm to you.

Hi Ken, I think the "why" is a good, valid question, and it serves to explore what value could be gained from the given suggestion.

I'm glad you agree that it could be beneficial, as you have suggested in your voting for the new challenge.

The average vote cast is a basic statistic which I'm glad shows in our profile. It's a basic stat which has a multitude of uses, and I've given my reasons for wanting it.

I ask why (how, etc.) when I don't understand and want further information. That in no way applies a value judgement ... that comes after the additional info is available. In this case, I then approved of the plan and offered encouragement : )

I'd like to see that implemented. And I really really would like to see all the averages accompanied by standard deviations! Averages alone tell you very little about the voting pattern.

Alright. All fair responses to my hasty, snippy, moment of irritation and bad moodiness. Sorry. Keep up the inquisition - I mean the exploring. ;-)
