Wow! Head on shots of meat eating birds takes blue and red ribbons. They are both great shots, but can't help thinking its more than coincidence. What it all means eludes me.

20% of the top 50 finishers were birds.

Suggestion: Have a Bird challenge just before the free study. By that time, people will be burned out on them. Did you see many Abandoned Buildings in the free study? :)

Great shots - all of them!

I gave both of those 10's. Both superb captures and worthy of ribbons. The detail and character in both were phenomenal! Taking such a detailed photo of a flower or other still life is one thing, but the element that they captured probably took a lot more patience and maybe even a bit of "right place, right time." To me it's more than just a detailed photo, they really captured the essence of these magnificent creatures.

If only they weren't captured in the zoo. I think the 1st place pic is absolutely outstanding all the same, it really deserves it.

I think the pink tires had somewhat to do with that too ...

Hey - mine's not a bird it's a self portrait.

Thanks ovenbird and Telehubbie - it did take a while to get the right pose too, but I do agree that some excitement is lost if it's a captive bird. You just don't get many vultures around London (well near Parliament perhaps) and the other birds are a bit dull (until summer arrives).

Very nice photograph. But I would like to see the unedited version and compare side by side the effects used. If thats OK with you.
